Torino Feathered Capital
For the motifs which decorate many of its buildings and homes, Turin once thought to choose feathers and plumage - symbols of lightness, sweetness, beauty and gentleness, but also of strength, speed, daring and freedom.
Turin was the capital of Italy, where arms and many kinds of uniforms were once chosen and designed in this area. Italy’s famous rifle brigades – the Bersaglieri – began in this area, with their headdresses covered in the feathers of woodgrouse.
It is also said that the architect Guarino Guarini wanted to decorate the windows of Carignano Palace with brick cornices in the form of the costumes and plumage of the Iroquois tribal chiefs in Canada.
